Wait on the Lord

Not too long ago, I was reading in the 42nd chapter of Jeremiah where King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon sieged and destroyed the Southern Kingdom and most of the inhabitants died. But the poorest people were left in the land. After which, an official from Babylon appointed a governor to rule over them. Yet, in a short amount of time, the governor was assassinated. After which, the remaining inhabitants wanted to flee to Egypt as they feared what King Nebuchadnezzar would do to them once he learned that his appointed governor had been assassinated. But before fleeing to Egypt, they went to Jeremiah the Prophet and asked him to inquire of the Lord on their behalf for His instructions in the matter, and whatever the Lord said they were going to do. So Jeremiah went and inquired of the Lord.
Scripture then says, “And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the Lord came unto Jeremiah.” Ten days... such a precious moment of time. But by then, the people’s hearts were already set to go to Egypt and the Word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah at that point did not matter to them; they lost heart.
But Jeremiah never lost heart for he knew his God. Throughout those ten days, everyday, I can imagine the people saying to him “you haven’t gotten a word yet, you haven’t gotten a word yet, Nebuchadnezzar is going to kill us.” But Jeremiah waited patiently. He did not make a golden calf, he did not say his own words, he waited on the Lord.
Likewise, in the faith there are moments that we all go through where things may seem uncertain, and it may not seem as if we are hearing from the Lord or we are not feeling that deep connection in the Lord. Meanwhile, the flesh and the world are loud, giving us all kinds of advice. But the inner man is patient, longing, wanting, waiting to hear the still small voice of our Shepherd; “this is the way, walk ye in it.”
Precious moments, where we are not relying on ourselves, on our own strength. But we wait, stilling our hearts in knowing that He is God and God knowing that we know that He is God, as our faith, more precious than gold, grows and blossoms and blooms. Knowing that He is Faithful and True.
Such precious moments in the faith, even though we tend not to like them. Of course, we would rather always have an answer and feel His presence, for in His presence there is fulness of joy. But in these moments, Jeremiah ten days, we wait. Whether a month, two months, whatever it is, "wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord."

To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.
